The Effect
by Lucy Prebble, directed by Tony Kennick
In a radical departure from our usual amateur dramatic fare, Midland Players entered the world of adult drama with their production of 'THE EFFECT', written by Lucy Prebble. This acclaimed modern work tackled serious issues with humour and sensitivity, asking if there really is any such thing as love, or if science has now proved that to be no more than chemical exchanges taking place in the brain.
When two young people agree to take part in the trial of a new anti-depressant drug, can they trust the powerful attraction they feel toward each other, or even the truth of what they are being told by the two scientists conducting the trial? - themselves a former couple, whose feelings are unexpectedly put to the test!
